Its abomination to set God or his Ark side by side the gods of this world. Even the spirits in them know they don't come close,hence, Bel bows before him and Nebo stoops low not to equal in height. We cannot place God most high side by side with mammon,a servant to God. Who goes to the house of a king and honours him with praises,alongside equal praises to his trusted servant? He will not accept it. Even if God gives us that servant,it must never become a master. Else,it replaces God most high in our life. They are two different kings in their domains. And we must always choose which of them to serve not the two. God most high cannot share his glory with any,let alone a servant. He is a currency on its own,with which we can get even long life. He honours those who honour him . Each time our relevance is measured by abundance of THINGS we have, we are truly poor. Those things can vanish in a moment and we find out how poor and wretched we truly are. Hence,its written," a man's wealth does not consist in the abundance of THINGS he has". We must be rich unto God,and never measure a servant with God,no matter the strength of the servant. Those who do so,trample on spiritual things like Esau and set their heart on immediate gratification of flesh.,and they won't see when good is coming,nor able to see God. Our respect and relevance should always first come in the true riches of godliness within us that radiates on the outward. Anyone placing God alongside mammon can never be servant of God,because those two masters don't want to share,so we must choose one to honour. If we are not rich in God enough to stand,then we must count all things dung and seek excellency of knowledge of God most high,that we may be truly rich.

Interesting story, the way I’ve looked at this story is that it’s an allegorie, that paints a picture of some one turning back from the true focus of out faith which should be the cross. For example Jeroboam was offering up incense on the alter at Bethel, he should have been offering up a sacrifice at Solomons temple in Judea, which in the old testament was a picture of the cross to come. The man of God was instructed to correct him, then leave by a different way, this shows in God we can only go forward in our faith, not turn back in any way, or turn to a different way. When the false prophet found the man of God, he was sitting under the oak tree, this is the position we should always be in, as the oak tree represents the cross, so we should live our life in the shadow of the cross, however the old prophet comes to the man of God and tells him to go back to his place. I see two problems here, one is he is going back to an old doctrine that does not anchor their faith in the cross, it could be a doctrine of works, and second one is he is eating and drinking from the old way of teaching before he learnt the “message of the cross” which is the terminology the apostle Paul called it in 1 Corinthians 1:10. To summarize, its simply going back to old teachings that do not teach the “message of the cross”.

I didn't understand what the OT had to do with the NT, and how Jesus was related to the OT, but after hearing this passage on Christian radio many years ago, it all came together. It still amazes me and strengthens my faith how Isaiah prophesied about the Lord Jesus Christ dying on the cross for the sins of the world 700 years prior to in happening.
